Beautiful Floors and Deep Roots
The genesis of The Wood Floor Store LLC took place in 2000 when Jerry Hollis, a newlywed kid and college student, took a job at a small town flooring shop in Waynesboro, TN. After only a couple of months, Jerry found himself saddled with the full obligation of running the store when the manager suddenly resigned. He learned the ropes quickly and, in spite of all odds, the business survived.
Two years down the road, with his business degree completed, Jerry felt he had the potential to plant and grow his own flooring business. He began searching for a place that had both a hometown feel and a larger demographic from which to pull in shoppers. Just 35 miles from his home in Tennessee, Jerry felt he found his answer. Florence would be the niche he was looking for.

A New Beginning
Stepping out on a wing and a prayer, The Wood Floor Store LLC opened in 2002 with a small storefront on Highway 72. With only one additional employee to answer the phone and help customers, almost every task was Jerry’s sole responsibility. He worked on the sales floor, managed the inventory, handled the bookkeeping and measured the jobs.
Mostly, though, what he did was win over people. Dedicated to a philosophy that every customer was important and every customer was worth his time and personal attention, he resolved to make customer service the difference between his store and the one down the street. It was infectious. People wanted to buy from him. In two years' time, he had outgrown his building and it was time to move on.
Welcome to the Big Time ... Sort of
In February 2004, The Wood Floor Store LLC expanded its square footage as well as its staff into a much larger building down the street on Highway 72. Change was brewing on every front. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but it was a necessary step to keep up with the store’s momentum.
The store was blessed and flourished in spite of the economic downturn occurring across the country. Over the next several years, Jerry and his crew were able to establish a private label brand, WFS Wholesale, which offered hardwood and vinyl products at a great low price. The slow process of distribution began and the staff began adding retailers all over Alabama and Tennessee.
Change is Brewing
By 2013, both wholesale and retail had developed into thriving businesses, and both were preparing for expansion. However, a major unforeseen change was looming on the horizon.
The untimely death of Jerry’s father-in-law required him to leave the store and return to Collinwood, TN, where he was needed to help run his family’s sawmill and hardwood flooring manufacturing facility.
Although leaving behind the little store he had nurtured and grown was not part of his plan, he knew he could trust the staff he was leaving behind to help bring his vision for his store to its full potential.
That is exactly what happened. By carrying on the customer-first attitude that Jerry began in 2002, Laura and the wonderful staff at The Wood Floor Store LLC continued to press forward.
The New Wood Floor 'Superstore'
In 2024, the store you see today is the fruit of Jerry and the staff’s collective labor. The Wood Floor Store LLC is proud to offer a new and improved 7,000-square foot shows pace that houses everything from competitively priced instock selections to unique high-end options.
From residential and commercial carpeting to the latest trend in vinyl planks and tiles, the new store truly has something special to fit every person’s needs and budget. WFS Wholesale, our private label brand, has now expanded to retailers all across the Southeast region, and we are proud to offer beautiful wood and vinyl products at an unbeatable price point right here where it all started in Florence.
Today, with over a million square feet of inventory in stock, The Wood Floor Store LLC has become the largest locally and family-owned and -operated flooring store in the Southeast.
